Post-Doujincon News

Today is my rest day after Doujincon. I came out of the convention feeling pretty good, and I would dare say its probably the best convention I have been to since covid knocked everything out of alignment. How good you may ask? If I talked about it in terms of figures and profits, I made close to what I made during my best sessions at MCM in the 2010s. But honestly what I appreciated was the engagement with the attendees and fellow artists. The morning of Saturday I was on my feet most of my time, chatting and selling away, and the atmosphere was just so positive. I probably spent more at this convention than I have at any other. I think they managed to strike a good balance between marketing at the right audience that were looking for original and fanworks like ours, while not being too overwhelming. I cannot stress enough how much of a positive experience this convention was and how much it has renewed my faith in the convention scene as a whole, particularly in somewhere as oversaturated with big conventions as London. I may never get into MCM again, but I would happily trade that for one of these once a year.

So my hat is off to you Ivan, and those who helped organise Doujincon. You made something great, and I hope you’ll continue to organise great conventions like this in the future, because I’ll be there with more new material.

Speaking of which, I’m still working hard on the new shabbit comic. The earlier rewrite is working much better and I’m making nice steady progress through it. My hope is still to get it done for Thought Bubble, and I will be putting in the extra time to get it done. Thought Bubble is currently my only planned event but I will keep you posted as more info comes through or more opportunities arise.
